Annapurna
area in the mid western region of
Nepal is considered most scenic and
culturally diversed place in the Nepal
Himalaya.
To begin our Annapurna Instructions,
we assemble in Kathmandu and head
to cliffs at the Royal Forest Reserve
near Balaju in Kathmandu to learn
basic rock climbing skills.
For the instructions in snow and
ice climbing, our destination is the
Tharpu Chuli (Tent Peak) 5500m/18045ft
area in the Annapurna Sanctuary.
From Kathmandu, we drive to Nayapool
- the trail head for Tent Peak and
then trek at a leisurely pace following
Modi Khola to its source in the Annapurna
Sanctuary to arrive at the Tent Peak
base camp 4877m/16000ft in 5 days.
The Raksi peak and the level glacier
below the west flank of Tharpu Chuli
provides an ideal site for snow, ice
climbing and crevasse rescue instructions.
After the 3 day instructions on snow
and ice climbing techniques is completed,
we put all of our newly acquired skills
together for an ascent of Tent Peak!
Despite of its moderate height, Tent
peak demands a combination of challenging
climbing skills.
