After
Mt. Everest was successfully climbed
to its summit by Tenzing Sherpa and
Sir Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953,
Hillary believed that there would
be no further expeditions to this
mountain since the goal to reach the
summit had finally being achieved.
Contrary to Hillary's thoughts in
those days - the summit of Mt. Everest
is one such place that many would
like to reach in their one life time
! The pull of Everest is not simply
'because it is there' but Everest
is the world's highest mountain and
no mountaineers want to miss the view
from the summit from the top of the
world when they can be helped!. To
help realize this dream, Windhorse
Trekking has designed a package climb
of Mt. Everest specially to assist
those with little time, experience
and resources to organize an expedition
of their own.
Climbing Programs And Services:
Our climbs on Mt. Everest offer you
the popular and classic routes: the
South-Col SE Ridge from the Nepal
side and the North Col NE Ridge from
the Tibet side. Both programs are
scheduled for 65 day. All trip participants
(climbers) meet in Kathmandu as per
the respective itineraries and then
trek/drive in group to the base camp.
In
our standard itinerary, we drive on
the Kathmandu - Lhasa road to enter
Nepal - Tibet border point at Kodari
/ Zhangmu (Khasa in Nepali) to arrive
at the Tibet side of Mt. Everest base
camp via Nyalam and Xegar. Alternative
arrangement is offered for climbers
wishing to fly to Lhasa and then drive
to base camp with some surcharge on
the expedition price. For the Nepal
side of climb.
Our standard itinerary is to fly
to Lukla and then trek for about a
week to arrive at the base camp. With
the motor-able road now extended beyond
Jiri to Chyangma (Bhandar in Nepali)
and the Maoists insurgents agreeing
to join the main-stream politics for
a peaceful settlement of their issues,
climbers wishing to get more physical
conditioning can begin their trek
Chyagma to arrive base camp. The first
leg of trek from Chyangma passes through
quiet and idyllic Sherpa villages
Solu and Pharak regions (oxygen rich
area - all under 3000m in altitude)
before joining the busy trekkers trail
to Everest in Lukla. This 5 day trek
is good for building your stamina
for the climb and supporting the local
economy in an area that doesn't receive
many visitors.
Training for the climb:
Climbers must have basic mountaineering
skill and be physically and mentally
prepared to deal with extreme conditions
while climbing. Train carrying a heavy
pack for multiple days before the
expedition. It is advisable to have
an experience on an 8000m peak before
attempting Mt. Everest.
