Located
North of Kathmandu in the Ganesh Himal
range, Paldor
is the mountain with fastest access
from Kathmandu. This
mountaineering course is suitable for
those interested to explore a bit of the
Ganesh Himal region and the unique
Buddhist culture - a blend of the local
Sherpa - Tamang culture and
tradition. The name Ganesh is
derived
from the elephant headed Hindu god of
good-luck who is son of Shiva and his
consort Parvati and probably the most
popular deity in the Kathmandu Valley.
We meet with other participants in
Kathmandu and we have a day practicing
basic technique of rock climbing and
handling of equipment. For the instructions
on rock climbing we go to the cliffs
situated in the Nagarjun area near
Balaju Water Garden. After the basic
rock climbing instructions, we drive
to Syabrubesi - the trail head for
trek to the base camp of Paldor. We
take a leisurely 4 days to arrive
at the base camp which will be placed
below the confluence of the Paldor
West and Paldor East glaciers at 4500m/14900ft.
Arriving at the base camp, we set
up a high camp at 5200m/17060ft. on
East Paldor glacier. Here we have
3 days instructions on ice, snow climbing
and crevasse rescue techniques. After
the instructions on snow and ice,
we climb Paldor 5928m/19450ft via
the North East Ridge and return to
Kathmandu in 3 days to complete the
trip..
